The property is named for nearby Panther Mountain (1,506’ ASL), a well-known pinnacle situated just north of the property’s bounds which overlooks the village of Chestertown. The land’s sloping ridge-side terrain emanates from the same highland plateau as the mountain’s upper elevations and offers several attractive features. Highlights include well-drained hardwood and pine forests, south-facing slopes with warm afternoon sunlight and a granite-strewn ‘knob’ with captivating seasonal views to the southwest.
A timber inventory was conducted by Fountains Forestry in December 2007. This data has been adjusted for 2 years' growth using 3% per year for sawlog products and 1.5% per year for pulpwood products. Total sawlog volume is 474 MBF International ¼” scale (3.95 MBF/commercial acre) with 1,571 pulpwood cords (13.1 cords/commercial acre). Combined, total commercial per acre volume is 21.0 cords, a figure well above the regional average. Based upon this information, Capital Timber Value (CTV) has been recently established at $85,900 ($661/ac).
