Chaffee Mountain Forest is situated in the town of Chittenden, in the heart of the Green Mountain Range. Chittenden is a small bedroom community where many of the residents commute to the vibrant nearby job markets of Rutland and the area ski resorts. Much of the land area of Chittenden is owned by the US Forest Service, creating a plethora of recreational opportunities from hiking and biking to skiing and snowshoeing.

Rutland, the largest nearby city, offers many boutique retail shops, small restaurants and various cultural events. Killington Resort is about 30 minutes to the east, and Pico Mountain is about 20 minutes in the same direction. The city of Rutland is about 15 minutes to the southwest. Albany, NY is about 2 hours to the west-southwest, while Boston is approximately 3.5 hours to the southeast.

On occasion, a property is brought to the market that offers a collection of amenities that rarely come together; Chaffee Mountain Forest is such a property. The gently rolling open land, farm pond, hardwood forest and expansive views of the Green Mountains dovetail well to create a fine pastoral setting. The approach to Chaffee Mountain Forest is quite pleasant, with old farmsteads and newer homes dotting the landscape. Upon entering the central portion of the property, the gently rolling open fields immediately give way to wide views of the Green Mountain Range. Nearby prominent peaks such as Bloodroot Mountain, Farr Peak and Goshen Mountain can be seen. It is along these peaks that the Long Trail meanders through the forest.
